Delayed Presentation of a Complex Proximal Femur Fracture Successfully Reconstructed Under Ayushman Bharat
A 26-year-old male presented to Saraf Hospital with a 1-month-old neglected comminuted fracture of the proximal third femur following trauma. The patient had initially been undergoing alternative treatment elsewhere, resulting in delayed definitive surgical management. Radiographs revealed a highly displaced, multifragmentary proximal femoral fracture with significant shortening and deformity, making reconstruction technically demanding.
After meticulous preoperative planning by Dr. Aman Saraf, the patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation using stainless steel cerclage wiring, reconstruction plating, and intramedullary interlocking nailing. Restoration of femoral length, alignment, and rotational profile in such delayed fractures requires advanced surgical expertise and careful intraoperative decision-making.
The surgery was successfully performed under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, enabling access to advanced trauma care without financial burden to the patient.
Highlights of the Case:
- 1-month-old neglected comminuted proximal femur fracture
- Severe displacement with complex fracture geometry
- Detailed preoperative planning for fracture reconstruction
- Open reduction with SS wiring, reconstruction plating, and IM nailing
- Restoration of alignment, length, and stability
- Early postoperative mobilization and rehabilitation
- Successful management under Ayushman Bharat Scheme
